Rocky View County isn't just battling with its neighbours on issues such as land use and urban sprawl. It's also battling cost demons these days and wants to cut firefighting costs, even as it waits for the decision of an arbitrator on a new contract for unionized firefighters.
"Rocky View County residents are already spending about 20 per cent more per capita on fire services than Calgary residents, even before the union contract," said Reeve Rolly Ashdown.
"We're committed to providing quality fire services, but at some point we have to draw the line."
