Marriott International Inc. has been named the brand partner for Century Group's new hotel, which will be a cornerstone of Surrey's giant City Centre development.
The luxury Civic Hotel at 3 Civic Plaza will boast 144 rooms, convention space, restaurants and condominiums.
Surrey's first new highrise hotel in more than two decades, Civic, which is part of Marriott's Autograph Collection, will generate 50 full-time jobs. The overall City Centre project has resulted in the creation of more than 200 jobs during the construction process, according to Century Group president Sean Hodgins.
The emerging complex also includes Surrey City Hall, the new civic library, residential condominiums and office space, plus retail and an expansive central plaza that will represent the new centre of B.C.'s fastest-growing city.
"[This hotel] will be a defining fixture of our downtown," said Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts, who was on hand for the Marriott announcement.
"[The] Autograph Collection is an expert curator of independent and extraordinary hotels," added Manlio Marescotti, vice-president of development for Marriott International.
Civic Hotel, designed by Vancouver-based Cotter Architects and ZGF Architects, which is based in Portland, Oregon, reflects an international outlook and the city's South Asian cultural influences, according to the developers. It will begin construction in January 2014 with project completion expected in the fall of 2016.
