Wendy's sees revenue increase

The Wendy's Company, owner of the Wendy's restaurant franchise chain, has reported consolidate revenue of $626.3 million for the third quarter of 2012, an increase of 4.1 per cent from the preceeding quarter.

The Wendy's Company, owner of the Wendy's restaurant franchise chain, has reported consolidate revenue of $626.3 million for the third quarter of 2012, an increase of 4.1 per cent from the preceeding quarter.

Wendy's North America company-operated restaurants generated a same-store sales increase of 2.7 per cent. Franchise same-store sales in North America increased 2.9 per cent during the quarter.

However, due in part to a $49.9 million pretax charge related to the early retirement of debt, the company reported a net loss from continuing operations of $26.7 million. This compares with net income from continuing operations of $2.5 million in the third quarter of 2011.

"Our top-line momentum continues as we generated our sixth-consecutive quarter of same-store sales growth, including a two-year same-store sales increase of 4.5 per cent, in the third quarter," president and CEO Emil Brolick said.

A Wendy's franchise fee is $5,000, but the total investment required is between $260,000 and $480,000 if the restaurant is set up on lease property.
