Unionized workers at Hotel Grand Pacific have voted 92 per cent in favour of strike action after negotiations with their employer stalled in May.

No date of a potential action by members of Unifor Local 114 has been set. The 160 members work in housekeeping, front desk, maintenance, reservations, the Fathom restaurant, the Courtyard Café and the banquets department.

In a statement this week, Unifor called for “fair wages that reflect the cost of living in the community where they work.”

Unifor National President Lana Payne said strike action could happen “unless [the employer] returns to the table with a serious offer.”

Unifor is Canada’s largest union in the private sector, representing 320,000 workers in all areas of the economy.
