Canmore’s first major hotel project in 20 years will open by Spring 2018.
Luxury Malcolm Hotel in Spring Creek is expected to generate over $3.2 million in employment salary and benefits to Canmore locals while contributing to the city’s burgeoning tourism industry.
“Canmore is a highly sought-after tourist destination with minimal accommodation options for the increasing number of visitors,” said Frank Kernick, developer of Spring Creek Real Estate and owner of the Malcolm Hotel. “The Malcolm Hotel meets the demand and provides a luxury option for Canmore while the event centre will attract more visitors.”
The four-star Malcolm Hotel includes 124 suites, restaurant and longue, outdoor heated pool and an 8,800-square-foot event hall.
Canmore, Banff and Jasper tourism revenue is expected to reach to $10.3 billion by 2020. Tourism at Banff National National Park – less than a 30-minute drive from Canmore – posted a record-setting eight months of visits between April and November 2017, increasing nearly 4 per cent from the previous year.
Building permits in Canmore doubled from 2016 to 2017, reaching $116.5 million in development activity last year.
Malcolm Hotel will be managed by Clique Hospitality Management, which currently operates six lodges in Canmore.
