Luxury candy brand Sugarfina is looking to expand beyond Nordstrom doors in Canada and Vancouver may be home to the country’s first freestanding location.

The Los Angeles-based retailer opened its first shop in Canada inside Nordstrom Pacific Centre. Sugarfina currently operates in all five of Nordstrom’s Canadian outlets. The brand already has 27 small standalone boutiques boasting high sales per square foot in the United States.

Sugarfina is partnering with Montreal-based brokerage Think Retail to establish its freestanding store expansion, Retail Insider has learned. Sugarfina is looking at Vancouver and Toronto as its first forays into the 600-square-foot to 1,000-square-foot standalone retail market. The boutiques will likely be located within major shopping malls.

The high-end confectionery is known for its candy cubes that can be used to make customized candy ‘bento boxes’.

Think Retail represents several regional retail chains located in major Canadian cities, including handbag and apparel brand Fossil and Scandinavian lingerie brand Change.
