The developer behind a pair of new buildings hopes the increase of vehicular and foot traffic will have a positive impact at one of Winnipeg’s most iconic – and confusing – intersections.
The confluence of four thoroughfares, including Pembina Highway and Osborne Street, just south of downtown, welcomed a six-storey multi-purpose building by Tkachuk Realty Group and another one is currently under construction.
Tenants began moving into the first building last fall. Ground was broken on the second building in the spring. When the ribbon is cut in late 2020, its 15 storeys will feature street retail and commercial, 75 apartments, a fitness centre, rooftop terrace, commercial kitchen and a parkade with the capacity to hold 132 vehicles.
The capital expenditure for the two buildings will be about $48 million.
Jonathan Tkachuk, broker and president of the company, said the development is geared towards the “work, live and chill” crowd, representative of downtown workers.
He doesn’t see anything negative about being located at an intersection that locals have nicknamed Confusion Corner.
“There is so much foot traffic at that corner. I think it’s quite attractive,” he said.
