The Fraser Valley district of Mission – bordered by Maple Ridge and Abbotsford – experienced a 6.6 per cent growth in population in just four years, according to 2016 Census data. Encompassing 170 square kilometers, the District of Mission is the 6th largest district in British Columbia. Once known primarily as a rural farming community famous for being the ‘Home of the Big Red Strawberry’, the city is drawing in more metropolitan-minded individuals, drawn to the city’s construction, retail and health care opportunities. Population growth and a lack of supply as lead to a vacancy rate of just 0.2 per cent in 2017 throughout the Abbotsford-Mission district (0.6 per cent in the city’s population centre) – presenting an opportunistic environment for multi-family developers and landlords alike.
