Chartwell boosts investment on Vancouver Island

Two seniors residences acquired for $124.2 million

Chartwell Retirement Residences has paid $124.2 million for two seniors residences in Victoria and Nanaimo built by Avenir Senior Living.

DEAL | Chartwell Retirement Residents, the largest provider of seniors housing in Canada, added two Vancouver Island properties to its holdings on Oct. 31, 2024. Chartwell paid $103.9 million for the 152- suite Vista Retirement Residence at 622 Admirals Rd., Victoria, and $20.3 million for Nanaimo Memory Care, a 77-suite facility at 4989 Wills Rd., Nanaimo. The properties were formerly owned by Arizona-based Avenir Senior Living. Originally announced in August 2024, the acquisitions are part of a larger investment that will see Chartwell complete on the acquisition of the Edgewater Retirement Residence, a 155-suite asset under construction in Nanaimo, for approximately $102.7 million this summer.
